Joey Dunlop leathers fail to sell

A set of kit claiming to be Joey Dunlop’s has failed to get any bids, after they were put on eBay last week with a starting price of £20,500.

In the item description, the seller claims they were worn by Joey when he rode to victory in the 1998 Isle of Man Lightweight TT.

The set included an Arai helmet (finished in his iconic yellow and black design), a set of worn Manx leathers, Belstaff gloves and Gaerne boots and it is claimed to be the same set that totalled £13,000 at auction in 2013 but failed to complete.

The suit was, “purchased initially in November 1999 at the Owen McNally Benefit Night on behalf of his late friend’s family in Coleraine, Northern Ireland,” said the seller. The items were, “an unexpected donation by Joey, and later loaned out to help model his statue on the Isle of Man.”
