Ducati updates Monster

Ducati has made its new budget monster available almost a year ahead of schedule. The bike was slated as a 2007 model but will now be available by April this year

The Monster 695 retains the classic Monster styling but, as the name suggests, gets a brand new 695cc engine with more power and torque.

Ducati has introduced fuel injection and changed the bore and stroke of the cylinder to allow more room for bigger valves, letting the engine make more power at lower revs, more efficiently.

The Monster is now up 10bhp to 73bhp and torque is up to 45ftlb.

It also gets a slipper clutch for the first time, which Ducati says, is to help with ham-fisted gear changes more than the usual fast-paced track work.

The styling of the Monster has also been tidied up with all the wiring disappearing inside the frame and any bare ally parts, like the yokes and footrest hangers being painted black.

Ducati also claims to have improved its manufacturing quality and as such the first full service on the new Monster isn’t needed until 7500 miles.
