New Yamaha XT660 supermoto on the way

MCN has uncovered designs showing the next-generation Yamaha XT660 supermoto with Ducati Hypermotard-like styling.

It’s a far cry from the dumpy current XT, which lacks excitement and desirability compared to thoroughbred European supermotos from the likes of KTM. The new one has a leaner, more exciting look.

The detailed patent drawing shows the single-cylinder bike with what appears to be the same tubular chassis and the same engine as the current XT, so it’s still not likely to be a direct competitor for race-ready rivals such as KTM’s 690SM, but more a softer, more rounded alternative with the right look.
