Yamaha sales steady despite big price hikes

Yamaha’s price hikes shocked dealers and customers alike last year, but new sales figures show the company still managed reasonable sales despite prices on some models rising by 34% in the last 18 months.

A constant stream of finance deals and incentives to dealers have seen sales of the R1, R6, YZF-R125 and Diversion remain in good shape. The R6 was the best-selling supersport 600 in 2010, the YBR125 sold a whopping 2078 and the YZF-R125 sold 1881. In the 125cc category only the Honda CBF125 sold more with 2243.

Despite big pressure from the class-leading S1000RR, only the new BMW and Honda CBR1000 Fireblade outsold the R1. Despite costing £12,500 the R1 still sold 718 in 2010.
