John Reynolds gave the new 1000cc four-cylinder superbikes their first win in the MCN British Superbike series. The Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 rider came out on top after a fantastic first race scrap with Virgin Yamaha’s Steve Plater to win by 0.210s.

Plater took the lead at the Dingle Dell chicane on the final lap but missed a gear allowing Reynolds to dart by to snatch victory.

Reynolds said: ” What a relief to have won one at last. It’s been coming for some time but little things have let us down. The team has worked so hard for this but fair play to Steve, he really made me work for this. ”

Michael Rutter finished third on the Renegade Ducati but it wasn’t so good for the other V-twin riders with Sean Emmett retiring on the second lap with an oil leak and Steve Hislop limping home 12th with tyre problems.

Race two:

In the second race Emmett bounced back to win from Hislop and Rutter but the lead changed eight times on the last lap.

Emmett said: ” That makes up for the first race. All weekend I felt confident but that was some race. The lap times were a crazy pace and on the last lap I just took the brain out to pass Hizzy at Dingle Dell. ”

Reynolds was fourth but actually took the lead into Paddock on the final lap only to run wide at Westfield and drop to fourth.

Hislop still leads the series with 213 points from Emmett on 197.
