Schwantz breaks hand in supermotos

1 of 1

Former 500GP world champion Kevin Schwantz has broken bones in his hand after a tumble in a one-off STTARS supermoto race.

The race was a support event at the AMA Superbike championship round at Fontana last weekend. Schwantz has three broken metacarpals at the base of the three larger fingers. Doctors estimate he will be back in action in six-eight weeks. Schwantz says he will wait until June to begin training for the Super Motard National races in the US in July.

The race was won by former supercross rider Jeff Ward, from Jeremy McGrath. Ex-World Superbike rider Scott Russell finished tenth.
