Kiyonari on pole

Ryuichi Kiyonari has taken pole position at the Silverstone round of the British Superbike championship, just beating team-mate Michael Rutter to the top spot.

Fresh from winning the Suzuka Eight Hour race in Japan Kiyonari stormed in to the qualifying sessions to break the track record and aasert his position on the front fo the grid.

Gregorio Lavilla, who is already third in the championship moved in to third place on the grid ahead of his Airwaves Ducati team-mate Leon Haslam.

Dean Thomas starts the second row on his Hawk Kawasaki followed by John Reynolds on the Rizla Suzuki, Scott Smart on the Vivaldi Kawasaki and Reynolds team-mate James Haydon.

Ben Bostrom only managed to qualify in 18th on his Renegade Koji World Superbike Honda Fireblade in this one-off appearance in the British Championship.
