Mickael Pichon was able to take the overall win at the Motocross Grand Prix of Europe, following an uncharacteristic mistake by reigning champion Stefan Everts in the first Moto.

Pichon was able to holeshot both of the finals and lead from start to finish on a challenging circuit which left little room for overtaking. Continual rainfall left a single dry line, while a new set of corners caught out Everts in the first race. Having restarted his machine, Everts was eventually able to salvage 11th place. Joel Smets took second for Suzuki with KTM’s Ben Townley third. Britain’s James Noble took seventh.

The second race saw Pichon take the win, with Everts staying onboard to capture second place, while Steve Ramon took third on his KTM. Noble took ninth to claim seventh place overall in the standings.

The results leave Everts at the top of the championship, but the gap to Pichon in second place has shrunk from 27 points to just nine. Smets is third, a further 28 points behind. James Noble is eighth in the championship, with Paul Cooper rounding out the top ten.

In MX2 Yamahas filled the pdoiums in both races, with Andrew MacFarlane winning race one and David Guarneri taking race two. Macfarlane was joing on the podium byAntonio Cairoli and Cedric Melotte, while Guarneri was joined by Alessio Chiodi and McFarlane. Britian’s Stephen Sword took sixth in race one, with Tom Church eighth, while in race two Billy Mackenzie took fourth, from Sword in fifith, Church in ninth and Carl Nunn in 13th.

The MX2 championship is lead by Antonio Chairoli on 174, one point in front of Alessio Chiodi on 173. Andrew MacFarlane is on 155, with Stephen Sword on 152.
