Dakar: Stage 5

1 of 1

Reigning Dakar winner Cyril Despres took another stage win on the fifth day of the Dakar.

One of the longest stages yet followed the course of the Adraa valley across Morocco for most of the day with yesterday’s stage winner Isidre Esteve starting first and doing most of the navigation work.

Having to lead the way slowed the Repsol KTM rider letting his rival Despres catch him and win the on time advantage.

Fellow KTM rider Marc Coma also caught Esteve to take second place on the stage putting Coma over a minute ahead of Despres in the overall rankings.

Mick Extance got back his form after his 90th on stage four to finish top Brit in a very respectable 41st. Charley Boorman was also back on song finishing the stage in 100th place putting him 115th overall.
