Everts close to 100th win

Stefan Everts took his career wins total to 97 with a tenth consecutive victory at Sun City on Sunday, July 16, 2006.

The Belgian Yamaha rider took his fourth pole position in a row, and put on a dominant performance in the first moto, easing his way past Steve Ramon and Josh Coppins early on to build a lead. The second moto was a copy of the first, with Coppins and Ramon again filling the second and third steps of the podium. Britain’s Julien Bill took 10th in the first moto, with Gordon Corckard 15th. The second race saw Bill again take tenth, but Crockard improved to 11th, with James Noble 15th.

In the MX2 class, reigning champion Antonio Cairoli took his first win of 2006. A third place in the first race behind David Philippaerts and Tyla Rattray came after a bad start and an off-track excursion, but he dominated the second race from Rattray and Britain’s Carl Nunn. Nunn also took a fifth int he first moto, with Tommy Searle sixth, Tom Church 13th, J Dougan 14th and Billy Mackenzie 16th.

Searle took eighth in the second moto, with Mackenzie 11th, Curch 13th and Dougan 14th.
