Lavilla tries four wheels

Reigning British Superbike champion and current series leader Gregorio Lavilla had the chance to try his hand at rallying during a recent visit to Oulton Park.

Lavilla tried the special rally stage at the circuit in a fully race-prepared Escort Coswroth, courtesy of championship sponsors Bennetts. And he soon got to grips with cornering sideways on the racing line. The slick Tarmac proved to be more of a problem as Lavilla managed to spin the Escort more than once.

“It was brilliant to test myself on the rally circuit as I have never tried this kind of racing before,” said Lavilla. “The car was all over the track and it was hard just going in a straight line, but once you get the throttle control right you can really get the car going. I felt quite at home on four wheels and, whilst I loved every minute, i don’t think I’ll be switching sports just yet.”
