Isle of Man TT: John McGuinness takes victory in Senior Race

1 of 1

John McGuinness has equalled Mike Hailwood’s record of 14 Senior TT motorcycle race wins at the Isle of Man TT.

Padgett Honda rider John McGuinness led the race upto Ramsey Hairpin on the first lap, but Relentless Suzuki rider Bruce Anstey then took the lead from McGuinness on the timesheets.

Connor Cummins retired at Union Mills on the first lap due to a mechanical problem.

At the first pit stop at the end of lap two Bruce Anstey was still in the lead but he was forced to retire in the pits due to a clutch failure. Honda rider Guy Martin also had a problem in the pits when his Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade failed to start first time.

Guy Martin later retired on lap two at Quarterbridge.

John McGuinness then led for the beginning of lap three until TAS by Relentless Suzuki rider Cameron Donald took the lead.

Donald and McGuinness then swapped the lead for the remainder of lap three and all of lap four until Cameron Donald took the lead for lap five.

Cameron Donald led for the entire fifth lap stretching out a lead of 7.92 seconds on John Mcguinness at Cronk ny Mona.

John McGuinness then overtook Donald on the timesheets going into the sixth and final lap due to a problem with Cameron Donald’s Suzuki GSX-R1000. McGuinness continued to stretch out his lead during the last lap while Donald bravely fought on to bring the Suzuki home to finish second.

Donald brought the Suzuki home 50 seconds behind John Mcguinness.

Ian Hutchinson finished third, Ryan Farquhar fourth, Steve Plater fifth and Gary Johnson finished sixth – a good result for only his second time at the Isle of Man TT. Michael Dunlop finished 10th.
