Aintree Motorcycle Racing Club

1 of 12

I went to the racing at Aintree on Saturday 16th May. The racing is held on part of the original Grand Prix circuit which follows the famous horse racing circuit where the Grand National is held every year.

The car Grand Prix was held there up to the 60’s and some of the most famous drivers in history have competed there. Fangio, Moss, Clark and Brooks have all raced the old circuit. These days the track no longer crosses the Melling road, but still offers 1.64 miles of track. It’s a great place to watch racing as there are no tall fences, advertising boards or anything else to spoil the view. You are only a few metres from the track in most places.

The run off areas on some corners are straight onto the fairway of the 9 hole course in the middle of the track! There was a huge range of different machines competing in many different classes all day on Saturday. The program had a full 27 races listed for everything from Side-cars to Superbikes and all points in between.

It’s definitely worth the trip to go and see the racing whether you are a modern bike racing fan, or just enjoy the classic bikes. At only £10 for a car full it’s good value too. I can’t wait for the next event in June. The pictures attached are only a small selection of the 200 available on www.wheelshots.com
