Argentinean rider Jorge Boero killed on stage one of 2012 Dakar

Jorge Boero from Buenas Aires in Argentina crashed 55KM into the 57KM opening stage of the 2012 Dakar and subsequently suffered a cardiac arrest.

The 38 year old was treated by helicopter medical staff for five minutes on the stage before being pronounced dead on his way to hospital.

It was the Beta riders second Dakar. In 2011 he got to the sixth stage of the event before retiring.

Boero was the 31st competitor to be killed on the Dakar since the race began in 1979.
