World Sidecars set for Donington kick off

The World Sidecar championship will kick off this weekend at Donington Park, as the F1 outfits join the second round of the 2015 Thundersport GB series at the Leicestershire circuit.

And as with last year, the new season kicks off with two British outfits lining up as the clear title favourites. Reigning five time world champion Tim Reeves is once again united with English-based Frenchman Greg Cluze, and only missed out on a win at the British championship round at the track last weekend after mechanical problems.

However, it was their main rivals in both series who seized the opportunity from the duo, with brothers Ben and Tom Birchall taking a double victory, a feat they will be looking to repeat this weekend.

Other opposition for the foursome comes in the shape of last year’s third place finishers Uwe Gurck and Manfred Wechselberger, while former champion Pekka Paivarinta returns to the series with Kirsi Kainulainen in the chair.

Speaking after Donington, reigning champion Reeves says that the team have moved on from last weekend’s issues.

“We had drive chain problems that left us out of the first race and starting from the back of the grid in the second. I really enjoyed coming right through to second though – it was good fun, and I’m fired up for the Worlds round now!”
