Mallory British Superbikes: Byrne wins race one

1 of 1

Shayne Byrne took a long awaited win at the Mallory Park round of the British Superbike championship.

Byrne ended the race with nearly a three second lead over second placed man Johnathan Rea who now leads the championship after his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari lost the front at Edwina’s chicane. Kiyo did rejoin the race but was black flagged bacause his fairing was damanged.

Third place went to Ducati man Leon Haslam just 0.16 of a second behind Rea.

Before the start of the race there was a moving tribute to Ollie Bridewell, who died in an incident on Friday, with paddock and fans crowding round flowers placed on Ollie’s bike to observe a few moments silence.

Top ten:

Shayne Byrne

Gregorio Lavila
