Oulton Park British Superbikes: Jonathan Rea goes fastest late on in free practice three

HM Plant Honda’s Jonathan Rea took advantage of the dry conditions this morning to go fastest in the third free practice session at Oulton Park pipping Gregorio Lavilla in the dying seconds. 

Spaniard Gregorio Lavilla was leading going in to the final few minutes until Jonathan Rea’s 1:35.879 knocked him down to second.

Ryuichi Kiyonari had taken the early led in this morning’s session with a 1:36.495 on his HM Plant Honda before Gregorio Lavilla topped the timesheets with 25 minutes to go with a 1:36.149.

Kiyonari reclaimed the top spot on his 19th lap of the session with just four minutes to go. His 1:36.101 started off a trail of quick laps from several riders with man of the moment Jonathan Rea going to second with a 1:36.139 before Gregorio Lavilla jumped back to the top with a 1:36.025 with just two minutes to go.

Jonathan Rea took his opportunity to stake his claim ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying to go quickest with seconds to go on his final lap with his 1:35.879 with Tom sykes securing third place for himself with a 1:36.059.

The riders were managing to knock off around 13 seconds from their times from yesterday afternoon where rain played havoc with their preparations for tomorrow’s races.

Kawasaki rider Michael Rutter fell in the session at Island but is okay while Scott Smart’s season of bad luck continued as he pulled off with a technical problem at Lodge.
