British Superbike Technical Chief killed in crash

British Superbike Technical boss, Doug Barnfield has been killed following a motorcycle accident on Monday April 6.

Barnfield who worked for the Motorcycle Racing Control Board (MCRCB) was a key player in drawing up the technical regulations of the British Superbike Championship and worked closely with series race director Stuart Higgs.

The 63 year old, riding a Harley-Davidson Sportster collided with a Ford Transit van and a Ford Ka on the A45 near his home in Daventry when he was killed.

Barnfield was responsible for drawing up rules and regulations having previously headed up the Auto Cycle Union (ACU).

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said the road was closed for about four hours between 10.30am and 2.30am while the vehicles were recovered.

She added: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A45 between Daventry and Braunston. The collision occurred at around 10.25am and involved three vehicles, a black Harley-Davidson, a black Ford Ka and a white Ford Transit van.”
