BSB's defining moments: 7

7. Most promising rider

Ian Lowry clinched fifth place in the points chase to cap an impressive rookie year on the Relentless Suzuki.

Lowry didn’t just have to learn how to ride a 200bhp superbike, or get his head around the massive amount of set-up changes available with a superbike compared to the supersport bike he previously rode – he also had to shoulder the development of GSX-R1000 with team-mate Atsuhi Watanabe being so far off the sprocket.

Lowry also had to overcome illness that laid him low for at least two rounds this year which makes his fifth place even more impressive and he finished his season in style with a stunning fourth place – making some great overtakes to get by Chris Walker (arguably the hardest man in BSB to overtake), John Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli in the second half of the race.
