Tunstall’s BSB Honda at off-road show

Tom Tunstall’s BSB Honda took pride of place on the Doodson Motorsport stand at the Dirt Bike Show, Stoneleigh.

Insurance company Doodson’s are also heavily in motocross, backing the official CMC factory motocross team and will again be the title sponsor on Tunstall’s bike in next year’s BSB series but Tunstall is still unclear of his plans.

“Although we ran in BSB this year, the jury is still out on whether we’ll continue in the main class or switch to Evo.

“We’re still considering which direction to go in terms of machines. Our Honda is well sorted but we’ll look at the other options.

“We tried an Evo-spec Honda back to back with our superbike at Cartegena in pre-season testing but went with the full BSB bike. It’s little known but we were hoping to run an Evo bike in the final round of the year at Oulton.

“I’d tested during a track day there and was running times that would have put me top three in Evo – and that was in traffic and in far from ideal conditions.

“Now I hear there’s talk of allowing kit gearboxes in Evo and that could make a big difference to a team like ours.”

The stock gearboxes have proved fragile under racing conditions in some BSB Evo bikes this year and, as such are more expensive over a season – at least that’s how Tunstall views it.
