Brands Hatch BSB: Shakey takes the title in style

1 of 2

Shane Byrne has become the first ever four time MCE British Superbike champion in style at Brands Hatch, only needing to finish fourth after injury ruled out Ryuichi Kiyonari but settling for nothing less than the win.

Early leaders of the damp race were Quattro Plant Kawasaki riders Dan Linfoot and Howie Mainwaring, swapping the top places with a resurgent James Ellison, but a late charge from Byrne after an over cautious start left him invincible at the line.

Ellison was able to take second from Mainwaring, only his second podium ever after yesterday’s maiden race win, but the pair had to hold back a late charge from Josh Brookes on the Milwaukee Yamaha, who also starting moving forwards too late in the race. He will however start race three from pole position.
