BSB: Pole 'unexpected' for Mossey at Brands

1 of 1

Luke Mossey took a surprise pole position for tomorrow’s opening race at Brands Hatch after a technical problem almost ruled him out of the final Superpole session.

A disconnected throttle connection left Mossey to coast back to the pits after his outlap in the Q2 session, with his team instantly setting to work on resolving the problem. A red flag bought them a little more time and Mossey got back out on track with seconds to spare, allowing him an outlap and single flier to get into the final session.

Going eighth fastest with his lap, he scraped into Superpole contention before going on to set what would be the fastest time of the session as rivals Jason O’Halloran and Shane Byrne were unable to topple the Cambridge youngster.

“It feels great to be on pole as yesterday I wasn’t happy with the bike at all,” he said. “We had some problems and we couldn’t find the right setting and I felt like I was a little bit on the back foot, especially with a crash yesterday.

“We woke up this morning with a fresh head on and the boys have worked hard to cure the problem and I think that proves we have cured it now! I really didn’t expect to get the pole position, so to be sitting here in pole position makes me feel over the moon! I am looking forward now to two hard races tomorrow.”
