BSB: Hutchinson to race in Superbike class at Assen

Ian Hutchinson will step up to the MCE British Superbike class with Tyco BMW at Assen this weekend.

The TT star has been riding for the Moneymore squad in the National Superstock 1000 series this year to much success, having only finished off the podium twice and taking two race wins to currently sit second to series champion Taylor Mackenzie.

With the Superstock class not racing at Assen, the Tyco BMW team have opted to promote Hutchinson to a seat alongside regular Superbike riders Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon for Sunday’s two races.

He said: “I’m very grateful to my Tyco BMW team for giving me the opportunity to ride in the British Superbike class this weekend at Assen. It’s been a great season for me this year with Tyco BMW and although I’ve never been to the Assen circuit, I hope to be able to do both myself, and the team justice on the S1000RR Superbike in both races.”

The move could well be a precursor to the Bingley rider stepping up to British Superbikes full-time with the Tyco squad next year, the 14-time TT winner having already told MCN he’d be keen to return to the series in which he last rode full time in 2014.
