BSB: Iddon returns to podium at Donington

Christian Iddon was able to turn things around for the struggling Tyco BMW squad as he made his return to the podium at Donington this weekend.

The former British Supermoto Champion hadn’t stood on the rostrum since he led the championship after four back-to-back podiums at the opening two rounds, but an improvement in form this weekend saw him lead the pack after Friday practice before taking a strong third place in Sunday’s second race.

After a number of tough rounds in the mid-season, Iddon believes the improvements began to come after a test at Kirkistown ahead of the Cadwell Park round, but it’s not until now this step forward has been seen in his results.

He told MCN: “I think we’ve been strong the last couple of weekends but it’s just not panned out how we wanted. I set the fastest lap of the race in the second race at Oulton but I made mistakes so the results weren’t there.

“I felt really comfortable all weekend but there is still something holding us back from bridging the gap to Shakey and those at the front. I can’t seem to go faster when I try to push and I think it’s because we aren’t making the most of the mechanical grip the bike can offer. There were two corners this weekend where that really hampered us, the last corner and the first, and I think without that we could have challenged for the win.”
