BSB: Giugliano in doubt for Oulton race

Davide Giugliano could miss the third round of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park next weekend as he focuses on recovering from injuries sustained his free practice crash at Brands Hatch.

The Italian is absent from today’s official test at the Cheshire circuit and team boss Phillip Neill has told MCN that at this point it is not known whether he’ll be back on track next week. The Oulton test was set to be important track time for Giugliano, who hasn’t ridden at the 2.7mile circuit before.

In his first crash of the year, Giugliano tucked the front on entry to Graham Hill bend in Saturday’s opening free practice. He was up and walking but taken to the medical centre for assessment, where it was confirmed he had no broken bones but with restricted movement in his neck it was decided he’d sit out the rest of the weekend.

He has since returned home to Italy where he is undergoing further treatment.

“At this point, we don’t know for sure whether Davide will be back for the Oulton race but he is receiving treatment daily,” Neill said. “Hopefully he can be back in action soon.”
