BSB: Mackenzie shows potential with top five result

Taylor Mackenzie showcased his potential at Knockhill with a stunning fifth place on the all-new Suzuki GSX-R1000 in the opening race.

The result is a big step forward on his previous best of 14th at round two and the Bennetts Suzuki man puts his success down to two key reasons.

“The team made a big step with the bike with Michael at the TT and those little bits helped me a massive amount,” he said. “But to be honest, the arm-pump operation I had at the start of the break was the big thing. I lacked a bit of strength in the races as I haven’t been able to do much during the break, so there’s definitely more to come. We’re still only four rounds in on a brand new bike.

“Nice to prove to myself that I’m capable of running at the front, I was behind Shakey for the whole race. You’re never sure as a rider until you go and do it so I can take massive confidence from this and push on.”

While team-mate Sylvain Guintoli found an improved feeling with the GSX-R this weekend, Mackenzie beat the Frenchman in both races.
