McWilliams takes pole in Phillip Island

Jeremy McWilliams has put the Proton KR on pole position for Sunday’s MotoGP in Australia. He qualified 0.4 seconds ahead of Australian Gary McCoy. The other Proton KR of Nobuatsu Aoki qualified in third, ahead of Jurgen Van den Goorbergh, Alex Barros and Tohru Ukawa. Champion Valentino Rossi finished qualifying in seventh, almost a second behind McWilliams, Biaggi was eighth, Capirossi ninth and Kato tenth.

In the 250cc class, Fonsi Nieto is on pole, with Marco Melandri in second and Sebastien Porto in third. Leon Haslam qualified in tenth, with teammate Jay Vincent in seventeenth. Manuel Poggiali leads the 125cc field, ahead of Arnaud Vincent and De Angelis. Chaz Davies qualified 29th.
