Aussie Andrew Pitt will replace the injured Akira Yanagawa on Kawasaki’s ZX-RR MotoGP machine for the rest of the season, starting with the Malaysian GP in Sepang on October13.

The 2001 World Supersport champion got the call from team boss Harald Eckl after Yanagawa fractured a bone in his hip, following an engine seizure at the weekend’s Pacific GP in Motegi.

Pitt said: ” Every rider wants to compete at this level, so this is a fantastic opportunity for me, although I’d have preferred if it hadn’t come as a result of Akira’s crash. ”

The 26-year-old Pitt is signed to ride the ZX-RR full-time in 2003.
