Nieto wins 250GP

Fonzi Nieto has taken his first win this season in the 250GP at the eighth round of the world championship at MCN Donington Park.

Nieto took the win after a long battle with Manuel Poggiali, who was determined to ride well after already suffering three crashes over the weekend, but Nieto pushed hard and crossed the line 0.269 seconds ahead to take the win.

Toni Elias and Poggiali were fighting for the lead in the early part of the race but while trying to take first place Elias ran wide and on to the grass dropping back to third behind Nieto.

Elias managed to hang on to his place for a while but Aussie Anthony West was on a charge through the field and passed the Spanish rider with just two laps to go. Roberto Rolfo was following West but lost fourth place to Elias by just 0.001 seconds.

Randy De Puniet was putting in a good race but front brake problems on his Aprilia saw him run wide and on to one of the slip roads. De Puniet managed to get back on track but could only pull back to eighth place.

Wild card Brit Jay Vincent put in a great race to take his Padgetts Aprilia to 11th while GP regular Chaz Davies got his third points placing of the season in 13th.

Check back regularly throughout the day for more updates from all the action from MCN Donington park.
