US MotoGP for 2005

1 of 1

America will host a MotoGP round in 2005 at Laguna Seca in California.

It will be the first time the championship has returned to the USA since 1994, and marks the start of a five-year run agreed in principle by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula, and Dorna Sports who hold commercial and TV rights to MotoGP.

The U.S. Grand Prix will be included in the 2005 MotoGP pre-calendar which is presented to the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) for approval. The event already has a title sponsor in the shape of Red Bull.

“The support from fans and sponsors has been of great enouragement, ” said Laguna Seca general manager Gill Campbell. ” Corporate sponsorships are vital for the track improvements that will need to be made to satisfy FIM regulations.”

Laguna Seca currently hosts a round of the World Superbike championship. Have Your Say and tell us whether you think it’s good MotoGP returns to America, and what you think this means for WSB.
