Dramatic win for Biaggi

Max Biaggi survived a dramatic battle with first Valentino Rossi, and then Alex Barros, to take the win at German GP today, Sunday, July 18.

Lap One: Biaggi keeps a determined Rossi behind him, in front of Kenny Roberts on the Suzuki, Sete Gibernau, Marco Melandri and Carlos Checa.

Lap Two: Gibernau moves in thrid, and Norrick Abe moves ahead of Colin Edwards to take ninth.

Lap Three: Carlos Checa performs a major outbraking manouvre to move past Gibernau into third, ahving already gone past kenny Roberts. Loris Capirossi moves past Marco Melandri to take sixth place. Aoki retires.

Lap Four: Checa crashes out of third as he loses the front and rear simultaneously, having been one of the fastest men on the circuit.

Lap Five: Capirossi into fourth, past Roberts. Nicky Hayden has move dup from 12th on the first lap to sixth place.

Lap Six: The leading trio of Biaggi, Rossi and Gibernau have moved 1.5 seconds clear of the second group.

Lap Eight. Gibernau slides out. Capirossi up to third.

Lap Nine: Capirossi out after highsiding the Ducati.

Lap Ten: Biaggi, Rossi, Hayden, Barros, Roberts, Abe, Edwards, Tamada, Melandri, Nakano. Bayliss crashes out on the other factory Ducati.

Lap 11:Biaggi is still fighting off Rossi as the works Hondas of Hayden and Barros start to close.

Lap 12: Positions remain the same despite constant pressure from Rossi to take the lead.

Lap 13: Barros passes Hayden to lead the factory Honda duo. Abe moves ahead of Kenny Roberts, with Tamada also in front of Colin Edwards.

Lap 15: Barros closes on the leading duo, with Nicky hayden in contention., Behind them Abe, Tamada, Edwards and Roberts are dicing.

Lap 16: Rossi takes the lead, opening a small gap over Biaggi, with Barros sliding his front and rear tyres to try and find a way past the Italian Honda rider.

Lap 17: Barros continues to pressure Biaggi.

Lap 18: Rossi, Biaggi, Barros, Hayden, Edwards, Tamada, Abe, Melandri, Nakano.

Lap 19: Positions remain the same.

Lap 21: Melandri and Abe are involved in a huge 125mph crash. Melandri touches the grass on his Yamaha, and spins up, eventually dropping his bike in the middle of the straight, and Abe is launched over the fallen machine. Both riders are reported to be OK.

Lap 22: Biaggi re-takes the lead at the last corner of the lap to demote Rossi to second.

Lap 23: Barros also passes the reigning world champion to set off after Biaggi. Rossi appears to be suffering from tyre wear.

Lap 24: Hayden demotes Rossi to fourth.

Lap 25: Biaggi, Barros, Hayden, Rossi, Edwards, Tamada, Nakano, Roberts.

Lap 26: Same positions.

Lap 27: Nakano moves ahead of Roberts Jnr.

lap 28: Biaggi, Barros, Hayden, Edwards, Tamada, Nakno, Roberts. Barros is desperately looking for the way past Biaggi, but finds his Honda is provoked into two wheel slides byt eh bumps of the German circuit.

Lap 29: The focus is all on Biaggi and Barros.

Final positions: Biaggi, Barros, Hayden, Rossi, Edwards, Tamada, Nakano. Roberts.
