Byrne gets Honda ride

Shane Byrne will be handed a once in a lifetime opportunity to resurrect his MotoGP career after being told he’s landed a Honda RCV ride in Malaysia and Qatar.
The 2003 British superbike champion will replace injured Aussie Troy Bayliss in the Camel Honda squad for the Sepang and Doha clashes.

For more details, see MCN, out September 21, 2005.

Bayliss is definitely out of the next two GPs after the former World Superbike champion broke his left wrist in a moto cross accident last Monday.
Shakey is preparing to fly to Kuala Lumpur early next week after the shock approach by Camel Honda team boss Sito Pons last Wednesday.
The 28-year-old thought his 2005 season was over following the dramatic collapse of the KTM/Team Roberts deal at last month’s Czech Republic GP in Brno.
But his career has been revived in the most dramatic fashion, with Shakey now finally getting a chance at world championship level to show what he is capable of on a competitive machine.
An announcement confirming that Shakey will race with experienced Brazilian Alex Barros is due out tomorrow morning local time at the Japanese GP at the Twin Ring Motegi.
