Dani Pedrosa has taken his first MotoGP pole, taking advantage of a qualifying session split by rain, as reigning champion Valentino Rossi qualified in a lowly 13th place.

Pedrosa put in the best time of 1:59.009 as the riders came back out and times dropped, with a good second place on the grid for the Rizla Suzuki of John Hopkins. Colin Edwards was third quickest, outqualifying his Yamaha team-mate by 10 places, and Shinya Nakano will start from fourth, ahead of Nicky Hayden, Sete Gibernau and Casey Stoner, who led the morning practice. Britain’s James Ellison will start from 17th, ahead of Kenny Roberts Jr and Jose Luis Cardoso. For the full list of times, click here.

In 250cc GPs, Hector Barbera will start from pole position on the Fortuna Aprilia, having just edged out team-mate Jorge Lorenzo. Shuehei Aoyama will start from third position on his Repsol Honda.
