British rider Chaz Davies will replace injured German Alex Hofmann in this weekend’s American GP in Laguna Seca.
Hofmann was injured in this morning’s free practice session when he broke his left hand in a collision with Sylvain Guintoli at the Corkscrew.
Davies will join Alex Barros in the D’Antin Ducati with MotoGP rules allowing teams to replace riders on the first day of practice.
It will be the first time Davies has ridden a MotoGP bike. He hasn’t raced in GPs since he had a disastrous spell with the Campetella Aprilia 250 squad in 2006.
He was due to race in the AMA Supersport clash this weekend on a Yamaha R6.
