British GP: Post race reaction: Casey Stoner

1 of 1

Australian Casey Stoner racked up his fifth victory of the year at Donington Park today pulling 26 points clear of Valentino Rossi in the title hunt.

The 21-year-old Ducati rider rode faultlessly in the changing condition – here’s what he had to say in the aftermath of it all.

” Even in the dry conditions we were pretty confident for a race in the dry, and in the wet conditions we were reasonably competitive but I didn’t realise just how competitive.

”Colin [Edwards] seemed to be taking it nice and smooth and slow and I knew I could go fairly quicker, so I decided to go past but a few laps later as I saw it was just continuing to get dryer.

”I started to worry a little bit that I was maybe destroying the rear tyre and that maybe we wouldn’t finish the race so I started going out onto all the wet patches I could and trying to race on the wet part of the track and not the dry line.

”I got to the last five laps and realised the tyre isn’t getting any worse and I had pretty good feeling with it still so I just continued to ride round on the dry line and the tyre still looks pretty good at the end of the race considering it’s our softest option.

“Obviously the bike has just been working this year for me and we’ve been able to pull it out at every circuit pretty much.”
