British MotoGP: Anthony West tops morning warm-up at British GP

Anthony West has proved his wet riding credentials this morning by posting the fastest lap of a morning warm-up at a dreary drenched Donington Park.

The heavens opened this morning before the first warm-up session of the day so the GP boys have had to revert back to wet settings to cope with the standing water.

West, in his first competitive event for the works Kawasaki team, put in a time of 1.43.837 which put him ahead of championship leader, and the pace setter from Friday’s wet sessions, Casey Stoner.

Stoner clocked a 1.43.973, just over a tenth in front of race pole sitter Colin Edwards and Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen.

Vermeulen had shown well on Friday in the wet but dropped down the timing sheets yesterday in drying conditions.

The Aussie didn’t have a faultless session however; he made it three crashes in three days by dropping it going into Foggy’s Essses this morning.

Dani Pedrosa also took an off road excursion in the session while Valentino Rossi managed to stay on the track for the first time in the wet this weekend but could still only manage a ninth fastest time.

West also nearly became a cropper when celebrating his fastest time after the flag nearly lost the front after pulling a wheelie up the hill towards Goddards.

The 30 lap racee takes place at 13:00.
