Valencia MotoGP: Valentino Rossi breaks right hand in horror crash

1 of 1

Valentino Rossi could miss the first Grand Prix of his illustrious career in Valencia tomorrow after breaking his right hand in three places in a horror crash during today’s qualifying session.

Rossi has competed in 191 successive races since he made his debut in 1996, but a crash exiting the first corner after just nine minutes of qualifying has thrown his participation in Valencia’s final round in serious doubt.

It has just been confirmed that the 28-year-old has three fractures in his right hand, but incredibly information filtering from the circuit medical centre is that he plans to ride his Fiat Yamaha in the race to preserve his 100 per cent appearance record.
Rossi suffered a crash under acceleration out of the first corner, with his Yamaha YZR-M1 bucking violently before he was thrown over the handlebars. His M1 was completely destroyed in the incident.

Valencia is proving to be a jinxed venue for Rossi, as a crash in the race 12 months ago cost him the world championship and gifted the crown to Honda rival Nicky Hayden.
