Casey Stoner looking to continue resurgence

Reigning world champion Casey Stoner is confident he can continue his stunning return to form by claiming a third straight win in this weekend’s German GP.

Stoner’s wilting title challenge has been revitalised by back-to-back victories in the British and Dutch MotoGP races, and the Aussie goes into Sunday’s Sachsenring clash just 29-points behind series leader Dani Pedrosa.

The challenging Sachsenring circuit saw Stoner claim his career first podium when he was a 125 rider in 2003, and he said: “I got my first podium there so I have some good memories and last year I was really fast in practice and I believe we can be just as fast this year.”

Grip issues in searing temperatures last season saw Stoner slump to a disappointing fifth place after he had been untouchable in practice.

The factory Ducati rider added: “It’s a difficult and strange circuit. Some parts are fun and other parts are boring with long corners but it always keeps you concentrated because you never know when the rear is going to come around.

“Last year with no grip in the left side it was a very difficult race but I’ve always managed to go well there and I’m confident for this weekend.”
