Sports Personality dream over for Scott Redding

Scott Redding’s hopes of winning the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award have ended.

Having made the shortlist of ten of Britain’s brightest young sports stars, the British 125GP winner has failed to progress into the final three contenders, which were announced tonight.

Redding shot to fame in June when he became the youngest rider in history to win a Grand Prix, triumphing in his home race at Donington Park.

His success also made him the first British rider to win a 125GP for over three decades.

The three contenders remaining are Olympic diver and last year’s winner Tom Daley, Wimbledon tennis star Laura Robson and Paralympic double gold medallist, swimmer Eleanor Simmonds.

The winner will be announced at BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2008 on Sunday, December 14.

Previous winners include Andy Murray, Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott.
