Bradley Smith made a positive start to the Indianapolis GP weekend today, the Aspar Aprilia rider clocking the third best time in opening practice.
Smith logged a best time of 1.50.878 in the final five minutes before rain brought a premature end to the session.
Smith’s best time left him just 0.164s off Simone Corsi in second and 0.275s off Czech Republic GP winner Nicolas Terol in first place.
Blusens Aprilia rider Scott Redding was in a respectable 12th place as he still struggles to shake off a right ankle injury he suffered in Brno earlier this month.
The 16-year-old logged a best time of 1.51.788 to finish just over a second off the best pace.
Danny Webb was 18th quickest as he recovered from a nightmare trip to America’s Mid West.
The 18-year-old was delayed by over 17 hours departing Amsterdam after his flight was cancelled and he only arrived at the iconic Indianapolis circuit after 5pm yesterday (Thursday).
The Degraaf Aprilia rider posted a best time of 1.52.491 to finish 1.888s away from Terol.
The rest of today looks certain to be hampered by poor weather with thunderstorms forecast for later. But forecasts for the rest of the weekend have predicted much cooler by dry conditions.
Last year’s inaugural Indy MotoGP clash was severely disrupted by Hurricane Ike, with the 250GP cancelled such was the severity of thee conditions.
