British MotoGP: Danny Webb confident of strong result

British teenager Danny Webb is confident he can erase the painful memory of last year’s Donington disaster to score a strong result in Sunday’s 125GP.

The 18-year-old broke his collarbone at the Leicestershire circuit when he was involved in a first lap incident at the Foggy Esses.

But the Kent rider is looking to put that disappointment behind and challenge for his season’s best result at Donington.

Following a run of four successive races where the Degraaf Aprilia rider failed to finish, Webb gave himself a pre-home race boost at the Sachsenring last week when he claimed an eighth place finish.

And he said the timing could not have been better to bolster his hopes of a top six this weekend.

Webb told MCN: “It’s a pretty exciting weekend with it being the last GP at Donington but I’m going to try and treat it like a normal race. A podium would be a fantastic result but I’m not going to put any pressure on myself.

“I’ve not had too much luck lately but Sachsenring was a good result and being back in the top ten has given me a fair bit of confidence.

“That couldn’t have come at a better time. My bike is mega fast but it is just finding the setting basically. We’ve been struggling a lot with that this year and I think most teams have found it difficult.

“A team like Aspar, which Bradley (Smith) is in they can get a setting quite quickly because they’ve got so much data but for us we’ve got to learn it for ourselves, and it has been really hard.

“With the RSW I rode last year it wasn’t so bad but with the RSA it’s been a bit more difficult.”

Webb is expecting to be close to 100 per cent fit after an injury ravaged spell, but he is still struggling to shake off a back injury picked up during two heavy crashes in Germany last weekend.

He added: “My back is still hurting and I was trying to train on Monday, just doing a simple thing like swimming so it was low impact but my back was hurting a bit. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem though.”
