James Toseland suffers spectacular crash in Jerez

British rider James Toseland is currently undergoing checks in the Jerez circuit medical centre after a huge high-side crash during this afternoon’s televised BMW car shootout.

Toseland lost the rear of Monster Tech 3 Yamaha YZR-M1 as he exited the fast left-hand Turn Three. It is the same corner where Mick Doohan suffered career-ending injuries back in 1999.

Toseland was 15th on the timesheets when he crashed with 16 minutes of the 45-minute session. He rolled several times at sickening speed through the gravel trap and needed to be taken by ambulance to the circuit medical centre.

The session was red flagged, as Toseland was stretchered away from the track and debris cleared from the gravel trap.

It is the second massive crash in the space of eight two months for the double World Superbike champion.

He branded a 125mph high-side in Sepang in early February as the biggest of his career and had only just fully recovered from injuries suffered in that spill.
