Bradley Smith set for second Moto2 test

Bradley Smith will fly to Spain on his 20th birthday tomorrow (Sunday) for a two-day test session on the Tech 3 Moto2 machine.

The Oxfordshire rider, who made his Tech 3 Moto2 debut in Valencia earlier this month, is due on track at the new Motorland Aragon circuit on Monday before moving to the Catalunya track near Barcelona on Tuesday.

Smith, who won the final 125GP of 2010 in Valencia, will test a revised 2010 chassis with French team-mate Mike di Meglio.

The three-time 125GP winner told MCN: “It is good to be back on track before the testing ban kicks in. I rode a 600 at a Jeremy McWilliams school in Jerez last week but it will be important to give the team some good information that they can work with over the winter break. The only problem might be the temperature because I’ve seen some forecasts that have shown it really cold at night in Aragon.”

Smith though is just keen to get in more crucial miles to help him adapt to the Moto2 machine, which features a Honda-supplied 600cc four-stroke motor based on the CBR600RR model.

Smith said: “I just need time on the bike to help me adapt from the 125. I really enjoyed my debut in Valencia but I just need time to learn how to ride the Moto2 bike fast and get myself comfortable. I’ve looked at the entry list and it is an incredibly strong field, so I need to be the best prepared I can for the first race in Qatar next March.”
