Ben Bostrom lands shock Laguna Seca MotoGP chance

Ben Bostrom has landed a shock chance to make his MotoGP debut at the age of 37 having been confirmed as a wild card for this weekend’s US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

Bostrom was given permission by his Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki squad to join struggling Spaniard Toni Elias in the LCR Honda squad, run by Italian Lucio Cecchinello for the one-off ride.

He will ride one of the two LCR Honda RC212V machines after Cecchinello failed to tempt Britsh Superbike championship contender John Hopkins into accepting a ride at Laguna Seca.

Hopkins didn’t want to jeopardise a potential wild card opportunity with Suzuki at the forthcoming Brno round in the Czech Republic.

Bostrom said: “Words can’t express how excited I am to get this amazing opportunity to race on my home track in front of the whole world. I have to thank Michael Jordan Motorsports and American Suzuki for allowing this to happen.

“The collaboration between Lucio, LCR and the MJM team has been terrific. I’m going to get on the GP bike and put it as close to the front as possible. Then I’m going to hop on my Jordan Suzuki bike and try to create even more magic.”
