Lowes impresses on Moto2 debut

Sam Lowes has made his Moto2 debut, surprising many in the paddock to end his first day seventh fastest against experienced competition.

The Supersport World Champion, who has signed for the Speed-Up team for 2014, set a lap of 1:43.068 at the Jerez track, only 0.4 behind former 125GP world champion Thomas Luthi.

Lowes, who has switched to his brother’s number 22 for the test (Sandro Cortesse uses the 11 plate in Moto2), said afterwards “I’ve had a very productive first day and managed 82 laps!. I’ve got so much to take in but the bike is mint, so I’m happy and feel good. I was faster than my Supersport pole time which I didn’t expect!”

The 23 year old is back on track for a full day of testing today (Friday) at the Spanish track.
