San Marino MotoGP: Lorenzo dominates to take win

1 of 1

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo  showed his class in San Marino to take the win by 3.379 seconds from championship leader Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo got a terrific start from second on the grid and opened up a gap of over one second on the first lap.

The battle for the final two podium places came down to team-mates Dani Pedrosa and Marquez, with the pair passing each other quite aggresively several times in the mid section of the race.

Marquez was the stronger of the two and managed to gap Pedrosa, who finished third.

Valentino Rossi was never quite in touch with the Honda’s, despite running third early in the race. Rossi finished fourth, 15 seconds behind winner Lorenzo.

Cal Crutchlow was running in fifth with Stefan Bradl close behind in sixth for the majority of the race, but the Brit lost out to Bradl on the final lap to finish sixth.

CRT rider Aleix Espargaro was hoping to capitalise on a brilliant qualifying position of sixth, but the Spaniard jumped the start and was forced to take a ride through penalty. Espargaro finished 13th behind Colin Edwards, the first CRT rider home.
