Assen MotoGP: Rains fails to halt Marquez

1 of 1

A wet start failed to dampen Marc Marquez’s blistering start to 2014, with the reigning champion taking his eight successive win of the season.

After two sighting laps and a chance to change bikes the race got underway with the majority of the riders opting to start on wet tyres.

Valentino Rossi left his change to wet tyres late, meaning he had to start from pit lane although the Italian rode a strong race to finish fifth.

The track quickly dried, forcing the riders in to the pits to change bikes.

Andrea Dovizioso led for a large portion of the race on wet tyres, leading for a little while after the change to dry tyres.

Once on dry tyres Marquez quickly moved in to the lead, eventually winning by over six seconds.

Dani Pedrosa finished third ahead of pole sitter Aleix Espargaro.
