Mugello Moto3: Fenati battles to home win

Italian Romano Fenati has taken victory in the Moto3 race at his home circuit after a breath taking race long scrap which saw just one tenth of a second cover the top three across the line.

The Sky Racing Team VR46 rider was involved in a race long battle in the leading group which covered the top 13 riders.

Second place on the podium went to Isaac Vinales, who left it till late in the race to challenge for the lead. Alex Rins took the third step on the podium.

Championship leader Jack Miller was involved heavily in the battle for the lead for the entirety of the race, but the Australian clipped the rear wheel of Miguel Oliviera on the final lap.

The collision sent Miller tumbling into the gravel along with Alex Marquez and Enea Bastianini who were both unlucky to be involved in the incident.

Miller’s DNF narrows the gap at the top of the championship to just five points between himelf and Fenati.

There could have been a Brit on the podium as John McPhee was right at the front early on in the race. McPhee led the race for a period of time, but unfortunately crashed out of fourth position a couple of laps later.
