A brief rain shower 30 minutes before the start of the Moto3 race offered Livio Loi, John McPhee and Philipp Oettl the chance to claim their first career podiums. With the trio having started the race on slicks they were rewarded with a first career win for Loi. The Belgian joins his compatriot, Xavier Simeon, as a Grand Prix winner just one race after Belgium produced their first race winner in over 30 years.

John McPhee’s first podium comes during an exceptionally difficult season for the Scot. His Racing Team Germany squad has been struggling all year and McPhee has had numerous suspension engineers and little continuity. Today however he was able to get the reward for his hard work this year and stand on the rostrum.

Danny Kent started from pole but a slow pitstop left him out of the points in 21st position. Enea Bastiaini finished sixth to reduce Kent’s title lead to 56 points.
