HRC boss: Impossible to give Jack Miller Repsol Honda chance

Promoting teenage sensation Jack Miller straight into Honda’s official factory MotoGP squad would have been a ‘stupid idea’, according to senior HRC boss Shuhei Nakamoto.

Nakamoto has personally endorsed Miller’s meteoric rise from Moto3 to MotoGP for 2015 where the Australian will ride a new production RC213V-RS in Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR squad.

But some people, including MotoGP legends Mick Doohan and Kevin Schwantz, believe Miller should have been fast tracked straight into the Repsol Honda squad in place of Dani Pedrosa in 2015.

But Nakamoto dismissed the notion that a prized Repsol berth was ever considered a serious option for Miller, who lost last year’s Moto3 title battle by just two-points to Spanish rival Alex Marquez.

Nakamoto told MCN: “This was impossible. If I was thinking about a second rider for the Repsol Honda team I wouldn’t choose Jack. This would have been a stupid idea.”

Nakamoto though admitted that performances in 2015 and 2016 will determine whether Miller would be given a big chance to move to Repsol Honda in the future.“There is some possibility that if he has shown enough he can move in 2017. It depends on performance,” added Nakamoto.
